Ethylene Glycol is a colorless, odorless, and sweet tasting clear liquid that has been used as an automotive antifreeze. This organic compound having C2H6O2 chemical formula is used to prevent engine freezing and overheating due to its high stability at high temperatures. However, other than its use in automotive applications, ethylene glycol has numerous industrial uses like de-icing agents and heat transfer fluids also as precursors for polyester fibers and plastics. Although useful, a word of warning is necessary as it poisons humans and animals if taken by mouth.
