Magnesium Chloride is a chemical compound having the formula MgCl2, which comprises magnesium and chlorine ions. It is a transparent, crystalline solid that dissolves readily in water. One of the most common industrial usages, magnesium chloride is used as a road-deicer, dust suppressant and coagulant in tofu manufacturing. Moreover, it is used in medical treatments and serves as a reagent with magnesium metal. Due to its nature as a hygroscopic, magnesium chloride is able to attract water molecules and because it has such use in humidity control.
